A Big Thank You!

I want to thank so many of you who have taken the time to write and let me know how much you enjoyed my books. I am now working on the third in the Darcy series. As I have the story laid out, it will carry them into the next generation.

It begins with a death.

I thoroughly enjoyed your 1st two books...THOROUGHLY!!! Read somewhere by a "true Austenite" that what you wrote about Bingley and Jane would "never have happened". I believe it was a natural consequence considering the "role of the wife" as Jane had been taught. I believe you captured the essence of the characters and of the time. The new characters fit right in. Glad to know you're writing a 3rd but "very scared" about it beginning with a death.

I was looking for a continuation of the P&P story and you, my dear, have done it! This is quite possibly THE best sequel to the P&P story I have ever read. When the original ended, I was left feeling like I could read about Lizzie and Darcy forever. I am soo glad you wrote these books. They have captured EXACTLY what I wished for Lizzie and Darcy! Thanks a million! Keep up the fantastic work!!

Linda,

I have to say I was hesitant at first to enter the continuation of Jane Austen, but I just finished the first book and you have done a FANTASTIC job of answering the questions that Jane leaves the readers with Pride and Prejudice. I have already purchased Darcy and Elizabeth and I a excited to start reading. THank you for taking on this challenging job!!

I have enjoyed both of your books as I am a fan of English novels.

Just a comment about the French.

My husband is French and I lived in Belgium for 13 years. Mr French family lives in France.

"beau mode" is written "belle mode"
That caught my eye right away. I can hear my mother in law sayng
"la belle mode".

ALso, Quatre Bas is Quatre Bras.

This is a huge crossroad about 2 miles from where I lived. It is indeed a four way intersection, one branch leading to Waterloo. Obviously dirt roads during that time period.

"Quatre Bras" means 4 arms to put it literally.

If you need a French expert to check your next proof, I now a French linguist and specialist of this English literature who will help you!

There were a couple of subject verb agreements that caught my eye as well. But all in all, I commen you for your use of the language!

OH! Yes, "faze" was not a word of the times. I have never read it in
such a novel. Every now and then a bit of modernity slips in, but all I can say is- I can't help but to notice! It's my job!

I look forward to reading the next one. I feel at one with the Darcy family now and will miss them!

Thanks for your entertainment and hard work!

Just finishing "nights and days at Pemberley" and was just checking to see when the next book would be coming out. Thoroughly enjoy your "take" on the continuing saga!

I absolutely love Mr.Darcy Takes A Wife! I keep picturing Keira Kneightly & Matthew McFayden as I read this book, for they were the 2 actors who were in the last movie version of Pride & Prejudice. This must be turned into a movie w/them in it. Is there any hope that you have plans to try & do that?

I am SO EXCITED that you are working on a third book and I can not wait to read it. Do you know when it is expected to be for sale?!!

I just finished reading your second book and was delighted. I was so glad to find out you are writing another. You have done a wonderful job of capturing Ms. Austen's characters. Keep up the fantastic work and PLEASE don't kill Darcy or Lizzy.

I was so taken away with Mr. Darcy Takes a Wife and Darcy & Elizabeth and I must say I am still quite taken away. Your continuations of Pride & Prejudice are completely and utterly amazing. Reading those books, I feel as if you captured the characters so well and right to the point; it was so incredible. I could not put the book down. I ended up envying, yet relating to Elizabeth and falling in love with Darcy. I dearly hope you write another continuation just as wonderful as these!

mieshka said...

when do you expect the third. I have spent the last 6 weeks reading the first two and want to carry on?

Karilyn said...

Yeah! I read both books within a week, I was so enthralled with the characters and just the passion that Lizzy & Darcy have for eachother. I googled you in hoping to find out that there was more to come and was so excited to see that I do have more Darcy & Lizzy to look forward to. I hesitate to read any other P&P sequels since I so enjoyed where you took the story and I don't want that picture altered in my mind at all. Thank you for sharing your imagination with us!

I am wondering when the second book is coming out on audio? I listened to Mr. Darcy Takes a Wife and loved it ... I would love to hear the rest of their story.

I can not wait until your 3rd book comes out! I'm a tad worried about the death that you mention. Believe it or not I actually do miss Mr. Collins, he was the most hysterical character! What is Fandango about? I am determined to have your entire collection!

Hi Linda,

I have read both of your books and fell in love with them!!! I can't wait for the 3rd book to come out!!!! Can you tell me if there are currenty any plans for the books to be made into movie's any time soon????

glstewart said...

I am impatiently waiting for "The Ruling Passion"! Linda's vision for Darcy and Elizabeth's life together is perfectly enjoyable, and like so many others, my only regret is that each book had to end. I especially love the wit and I too, miss Mr. Collins! Although I have to say that Lady Catherine's horridness is hysterical enough to make up for that loss.

Any updates on a release date, Linda?

Can you please give us an update on your third book?!
You said in your July 2008 that it would be coming out next year, as we are now July 2009... I just can't get enough of your sequels! Thanks!

Could you please tell us if you have any idea when the 3rd book is coming out???? I have resorted to reading the books again for the
3rd time!!!

I don't know where to begin to express my utter dismay in reading what I thought was to be a sequel to Pride & Prejudice. Hardly! Within the first few pages of Mr. Darcy Takes a Wife, you managed to turn the very attractive goodness of Mr. Darcy's character into one of a common rake.
Your assumptions are astounding: good fathers, guarding their son's life of virtue, would naturally give them the address of high class prostitutes, where their sins could be freely indulged in while remaining discreet and private. You write that (the elder) Mr Darcy told his son that "his position was one of such import that he must never be ruled by anything other than the highest of motives and the worthiest of principles." On the next page we find that his father had secretly tucked a paper with the address of the house of Harcourt where his son could "discreetly pass company with a woman possessed of both beauty and refinement...not requiring any commitment beyond a few hours of one's time." What?
And your assumption that if a person remains chaste and abstinent, one suffers from "profound ill-temper." Next, we find that, "as a matter of expediency, he would go to Harcourt where he could chamber with diligence and privacy, safe in the knowledge that commerce exacted no threat of entanglement."

And these are the thoughts and ambitions of a good man?
As far as I can see, you have taken the world of Jane Austen and sullied it with your own vulgar thoughts and imaginings. It is no surprise to learn that you had to "self-publish" this book. Once out there, you must know there is an insatiable thirst of some for the tawdry and titillating. I wish you had not done this with a classic story many have savored through the years. Perhaps you could take some lessons from a writer like Ann Rice, whose writings are uplifting to the human spirit.
I must tell you that I could not bring myself to waste any more of my time reading this. I glanced ahead to see if the tone changed at all. Unfortunately, all the book is good for is being tossed in the garbage where it will be indistinguishable from the rest of the refuse.

Dear Linda, I am a huge fan. I LOVE your novels on Darcy & Elizabeth! I am on my second reading of both. I decided to look on google to see if I could find out if there will be a third novel. To my delight there will be :) Like most P&P fans I hope the death that begins the third novel is not Darcy or Elizabeth. Is there anyway I can be notified when the novel is released?

PS: "Janette" really needs to get a hobby. Popular opinion says your novels rock! Just an observation, you sullier you :)

janette - My dear, if you knew anything of history you would know that Linda nailed it. In Darcys time things wernt so prim and proper as one would asume... Jeez just look at what 'going to court' did to innocent young women. I love Linda version on P&P. It captures the culture of the times and gives you a glimpse of how life really was. Jane A left an awesome footpath on P&P stories, sadly for her she could not write what really took place in those times, just what was proper for everyone elses sensibilities. =/

My Dear
Mr. Darcy would never tip his hat to the prostitute who yielded him favors in front of Elizabeth. A gentleman just would not do this .......especially our dear Darcy.

Thoroughly enjoyed every word of both...Mr. Darcy Takes a Wife, and Darcy & Elizabeth, Nights and Days at Pemberly! I am very anxious to find out when your third novel in the series...The Ruling Passion, will be published. You are a wonderful author and have the bravery to write what all of us were thinking as we watched the blooming love of Darcy and Elizabeth unfold in Pride and Prejudice. Bravo, Bravo, Encore, Encore!!!!!

I recently discovered your books and I love them! The perception you carry with this time is very original and although I am a Jane Austen purist at heart, I read them with your advice... I keep my smelling salts close by...

I have a question for those readers who have read MDTAW and D&E several times: Do you recall an instance when Juliette and Wickham might have met?

Thanks much,
Linda Berdoll

(The more you help, the fast I write;)

I don't remember them meeting except for Wickman meeting several other "ladies of the night". Sounds like an interesting plot though!
