In Darcys time things wernt so prim and proper as one would asume... Jeez just look at what 'going to court' did to innocent young women. I love Linda version on P&P. It captures the culture of the times and gives you a glimpse of how life really was. Jane A left an awesome footpath on P&P stories, sadly for her she could not write what really took place in those times, just what was proper for everyone elses sensibilities. =/Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4025810452137571284.post-30962232023937363542010-03-30T12:54:17.693-07:002010-03-30T12:54:17.693-07:00PS: "Janette" really needs to get a hobb...PS: "Janette" really needs to get a hobby. I decided to look on google to see if I could find out if there will be a third novel. To my delight there will be :) Like most P&P fans I hope the death that begins the third novel is not Darcy or Elizabeth. Is there anyway I can be notified when the novel is released?Cherrihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00495553053753003443noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4025810452137571284.post-38349943973797327212010-03-08T11:13:30.598-08:002010-03-08T11:13:30.598-08:00I don't know where to begin to express my utte...I don't know where to begin to express my utter dismay in reading what I thought was to be a sequel to Pride & Prejudice. Hardly! Within the first few pages of Mr. Darcy Takes a Wife, you managed to turn the very attractive goodness of Mr. Darcy's character into one of a common rake.
Your assumptions are astounding: good fathers, guarding their son's life of virtue, would naturally give them the address of high class prostitutes, where their sins could be freely indulged in while remaining discreet and private. You write that (the elder) Mr Darcy told his son that "his position was one of such import that he must never be ruled by anything other than the highest of motives and the worthiest of principles." On the next page we find that his father had secretly tucked a paper with the address of the house of Harcourt where his son could "discreetly pass company with a woman possessed of both beauty and refinement...not requiring any commitment beyond a few hours of one's time." What?
And your assumption that if a person remains chaste and abstinent, one suffers from "profound ill-temper." Next, we find that, "as a matter of expediency, he would go to Harcourt where he could chamber with diligence and privacy, safe in the knowledge that commerce exacted no threat of entanglement."

And these are the thoughts and ambitions of a good man?
As far as I can see, you have taken the world of Jane Austen and sullied it with your own vulgar thoughts and imaginings. It is no surprise to learn that you had to "self-publish" this book. Once out there, you must know there is an insatiable thirst of some for the tawdry and titillating. I wish you had not done this with a classic story many have savored through the years. Perhaps you could take some lessons from a writer like Ann Rice, whose writings are uplifting to the human spirit.
I must tell you that I could not bring myself to waste any more of my time reading this. I glanced ahead to see if the tone changed at all. Unfortunately, all the book is good for is being tossed in the garbage where it will be indistinguishable from the rest of the refuse.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17586260269436487409noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4025810452137571284.post-72333587960854188592010-01-07T19:27:13.615-08:002010-01-07T19:27:13.615-08:00Could you please tell us if you have any idea when...Could you please tell us if you have any idea when the 3rd book is coming out???? Mr French family lives in France.

"beau mode" is written "belle mode"
That caught my eye right away. I can hear my mother in law sayng
"la belle mode".

ALso, Quatre Bas is Quatre Bras.

This is a huge crossroad about 2 miles from where I lived. It is indeed a four way intersection, one branch leading to Waterloo. Obviously dirt roads during that time period.

"Quatre Bras" means 4 arms to put it literally.

If you need a French expert to check your next proof, I now a French linguist and specialist of this English literature who will help you!

There were a couple of subject verb agreements that caught my eye as well. But all in all, I commen you for your use of the language!

OH! Yes, "faze" was not a word of the times. I have never read it in
such a novel. Every now and then a bit of modernity slips in, but all I can say is- I can't help but to notice! It's my job!

I look forward to reading the next one.
